The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
One of the things I have personally missed since lockdown is not being able to go and walk along the beach. Its my favourite place to be, I have always loved just looking at the sea, in all weathers. I particularly love it in the evenings when the sun is setting and the sky is a myriad of colours. Without fail the verse that springs to mind each time is Psalm 19:1, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Early on I decided that during my daily allowance of walking I would look for something that would remind me of the wonder of creation Its actually incredible how many beautiful sunsets and snippets of beauty I found in my limited walking area within a city.
Everywhere we look we are surrounded by a world that declares the glory of God! Breath-taking natural beauty, all brought into being by a spoken word of God. I have a large aerial photograph on my living room wall of Ogmore-by-Sea, which I love but it just isn’t the same as walking along the beach itself. As my photo is only a poor reflection of the true beach itself, in the same way creation stunning as it is only dimly captures God’s splendour. Imagine what it will be like to be in heaven with ‘all the filters removed’. The psalmist tells us the sky is giving us a glimpse of the “glory of God”, a foretaste of what’s to come!
Can I encourage you, no matter where you live, to look for something each day to remind you of the splendour of our world and all that surrounds it. It will lift your heart and point you to our Saviour. May it lead you to worship the God who created such a wondrous universe and fill you with anticipation for an eternity with him.
