EMW Daily Devotion - 20 June 2020

And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.”

Luke 7:13

As I sit by my computer this evening to write this devotion, I’m finding that I have no eloquent words to share, no clever illustrations to give, nor any particular wisdom to impart. What I do have I give you…

Christ has compassion on us. Whatever our circumstances today and whatever we are facing, we can be sure that his eyes are on us. Christ’s compassion is a wonderful thing. It is deeper than pity, and more than sympathy. It is a movement of his heart towards ours as he sees and seeks us in our need.

It moved him in eternity to love us. It moved him in Bethlehem to limit himself to a human body for us. It moved him in Gethsemane to continue the terrible path to the cross and it kept him on that cross as he died for us. As Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever, we can be sure that his compassion continues to move him today as he watches us and works in our life. It is his Spirit that sustains us.

Let me make it personal… Christian, because Jesus bled to death for you on Calvary, you can be sure that his heart is bleeding for you today. This is a comfort beyond comfort and brings a peace beyond anything that the world can offer. Is it no wonder that Christ has told us that our hearts should not be troubled nor be afraid? He is with us and has compassion on us!

Let us rest in Christ’s compassion today and let our love deepen towards the one that is fairer than ten thousand.
