Daily Devotion - 2 May

And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

Genesis 2: 2

Who knows you best?

I am sure everyone's answers would vary - husband or wife, father or mother, brother or sister or even a friend. It is a blessing to have a person who knows you well, and a deeper blessing when that person is wise and intelligent. The blessing will be deepened even more when we it is all united with love - we can trust a wise person, who knows us and wants the best for us. We do well to listen to the advice and support of this type of person.

No one knows you better than God. There is nothing hidden from him, he has made you and he understands you completely - he even knows how much hair is on your head (easier to know for some rather than others)! God is also wise and omniscient as Paul said “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!” And of course, it is all united by the wonderful love that will never fail of the Father.

If there is one that we can trust, that is God. We can come to his words with confidence knowing that he knows for sure what is best for us. God would never give us a command or some guidance unless it was for our good and his glory. It would be foolish to ignore what he is saying.

Do you rest?

Rest can be difficult these days. Business prevents some, with work, church, children or other time pressures stopping them. For others guilt makes it difficult to relax with the inner cry that they should be doing something that disrupts the opportunity the Lord has given. For others worrying and watching the news endlessly is a problem, and for others the call of the screen and social websites is too strong.

Whatever your current situation, and whoever you are, the loving words and example of the Lord are clear - make sure you rest. So, remember to relax at some point over the next week.
